Skye lounger chair designed by Swedish interior Designer Tord Björklund. The unique modular design consists of a supple cognac leather cushion, with fold-down headrest, which sits upon a stretched black canvas cradle. The strong tubular base is finished in a beautiful grey satin lacquer. Manufactured in Sweden between 1970 & 1999, this example appears to be of the earlier production runs. The innovative design allows for the cover, cradle and legs to be disassembled for transport or moving between rooms, whilst being very robust and strong.I have loved and cared for the lounger and as a result it has received hardly any use at all (see picture of foot base showing now wear at all). The design invites your to lay back and relax, it is such a pleasure to use, supporting your body from head to toe. All parts are in extremely good condition, with no marks, scratches or tears.
The leather shows some original and small marks from the natural hide as is present on all examples of the Skye Lounger. For those interested in learning more about the talented designer, Tord studied at the Academy for Interior Design in Copenhagen, Denmark and quickly established an original and uniquely Scandinavian design signature. As a result he twice received the Excellent Swedish Design Award. His design philosophy focused on using clear and simple lines that sent a clear message on how those products should be used and enjoyed. He ran his own design studio, as well as creating a wide range of successful products for IKEA.
